We are a University of Chicago field station dedicated to advancing ecological knowledge, place-based education, and community impact through ecological & social research, community partnerships, and interdisciplinary learning. As a regional resource, we foster innovation, mentorship, and partnerships that address today’s urgent environmental challenges while preparing the next generation of scholars.

Our vision is to be a regional hub for ecological research, education, and collaboration — where UChicago students, faculty, and the broader community come together to advance science, explore the humanities, and cultivate a shared sense of belonging through meaningful engagement and immersive experiences with nature.

The Warren Woods Ecological Field Station is owned and operated by the University of Chicago’s Department of Ecology and Evolution
